NMEnterprises: Awesome work. A clear story without dialogue is impressive, and the animation here is bouncy and very effective. Super well done.

Koit: I really liked this one. Very colourful and included lots of very fluid fbf animation. Good use of sound, or the lack of it, in a minimal yet apt way.

Running animations are hard to do, this one looked great. Well done Sir !

ArtistGamerGal: You do a wonderful job of showing the expressions of the characters so I knew exactly what they were thinking and how they were feeling without any dialogue. The best animations are those that can be understood while on mute. Some areas you might want to practice a bit more is your posing and timing. It can sometimes be a little too even and soft. Like when the character lands from that massive jump, I really wanted to see the impact of that when he hit the ground, but instead he lands light as a feather. Maybe try incorporating some more extreme poses. Push it until it breaks, and then take it one step back. I also see that some backgrounds were unfinished, and just white. I feel like it wouldn’t have taken long to just set up a gradient or something behind the character, so this just came off as somewhat lazy. I think your strength really lies in your character animation and not your backgrounds. Keep animating!

test-object: That was actually pretty cute. Some fun character design going on and it had a very polished feel to it. The story was very simple and well set up. I’m actually not entirely sure what to critique you on, you seem to know exactly what you’re doing and having fun with it.

There is something rather weird about the sound design though. There are sound effects, yet it feels very empty and silent. Maybe the lack of a voice, maybe some paradoxical use of bg music…

Anyway, good job over-all. It’s been loads of fun watching your stuff and I’ve especially enjoyed your clean character designs. Good luck!

NMEnterprises: I did like the bugs being crushed underfoot when I thought the story would be about them – nice. I do feel a little sad that this was only the first instalment of a bigger story.

Koit: Very basic animation but nice and colourful. Your voice acting is decent but unfortunately you are let down by a poor mic which brings in a lot of noise and detracts from your skills. I can see you’ve improved a hell of a lot from earlier rounds, the characters are not as stiff, so kudos there.

As far as this story goes, it kinds of cuts off right in the middle. Had you planned a longer story ? I would have liked to have seen Roy getting his sword back from them black thingies.

ArtistGamerGal: I really think you have improved your animations over the course of this contest! Each entry is more sophisticated than the last. I really like the color choices for the gradient on the sky, this looked nice. Other than that, the backgrounds were pretty flat in most places and made up of completely horizontal lines which make them, and in turn the characters, look very flat. Your audio is still very poor quality and hard to understand. It still would be in your best interest to ask some voice actors for help on future animations or to get better equipment and speak clearer. However you chose some nice background music. The joke at the opening was funny, made me chuckle. I found it odd that the characters were holding the sword by the blade- ouch! There was some nice little animation with the little shadow creatures taking the sword, but the animation of the main character hoeing really needs work. You should really observe how people do actions in real life or by acting out the action yourself to get a better idea of the motion and when pauses need to put in.

test-object: I didn’t enjoy this a lot. Your actual animating skill is still rather rough around the edges and very stiff. I don’t mind simplicity, but there’s a certain charm that goes lost when they look at each other with the same blank, dead expression all the time, especially when the movement is limited too. If you feel like you’re having difficulties with limbs, try without them or make them rubbery for a movement with more expression and meaning. Animation is what you want it to be, you’re not restricted to biologics.

I’d also try and ask some proper voice actors to provide your lines, since both voices are very much the same and it distracts quite a bit.

I would love to see you keep continuing the series and mark each improvement, every episode. Best of luck!

NMEnterprises: Very impressive animation and art! However, I found it a little hard to follow, and a different kind of music may have worked better. On the whole, though, dazzling work!

Koit: Very hard for me to comment on this one – I have no idea what the story meant or was trying to say. That said, the animation and artwork were as expected from you, of a nice high standard.

ArtistGamerGal: I think you’ve set a high standard for yourself and this contest with your previous work, but sadly I don’t think this is your best entry. The overall timing in the runs and character action was very slow. If this was an attempt at slow motion, that wasn’t clear. I do think this animation has the best backgrounds of any animation you’ve submitted, and I really liked some of the special effects animation with the rabbit. I still think you need cleaner line quality. The sketchy nature of the drawings just makes them look unfinished. I also was very disappointed with the character’s emotions in this animation. He just seemed to repeat the same wide eyed expression over and over. I also wasn’t a fan of the music choice. The hard rock didn’t really feel like it matched the overall mystical and magical storyline. Overall, I would love to see you adapt a style that is more your own instead of this somewhat generic looking anime style. I think you have a good grasp of animation, so don’t let unoriginality hold you back. Keep animating!

test-object: I can’t put enough emphasis on how much I appreciate the effort you put in each of your animations and this is no exception. It seems like you had quite some fun with this one too. You generated a world that isn’t bound to earthly rules or had a strict narrative structure and that’s what really made this a joy for me to watch.

You’re totally on your way of making great things, the only real criticism I have currently is to a. animate more, of course and b. try playing with sound effects. I know this sounds kind of irrelevant and silly, seeing as your animation was based all around that song, but for future projects, I‘d love to see you play creatively with sounds. A clever use of sound effects can actually lure people in your world more so than a good song.

Mind you, this is just in the spirit of future work. In this case, it was a blast stepping into this realm. Congrats.

NMEnterprises: I did laugh at this, but I was so confused as to what was actually going on. If only you did start earlier on your animations!

Koit: I wanted to like this as your stuff is normally really funny and cleverly written. This one had the makings of that, but for me it went nowhere and didn’t have the sort of resolutions that your previous entries had.

I liked the casual swearing and the cheeky bit of paper. He was cool.

ArtistGamerGal: You do wonderful background art. I loved the use of gradients and textures and the overall clean and polished look you gave the background art. It was unfortunate that the character animation wasn’t as polished. The character’s design was very poor. The blue and white shirted characters basically looked the same other than the shirt color. This character design with the dots for eyes is very unemotional and really has to be pushed in order to show much expression at all. Maybe try a design that has pupils on eyeballs so you can push the expressions more. The primitive design and stubby fingers just don’t fit in with your clean and slick background art. You also don’t have enough in-betweens in the character animation. I also really didn’t understand what was happening in this story after watching this several times. I got that it was similar to a Saw or horror movie, but other than that, didn’t really get the ending.

test-object: Wasn’t a big fan of this. A couple of the jokes fell flat, it was severely unfinished and had no real interesting style or twist to it. A lot of the animation was really lazy and simplistic, nor did I find a particular reason for this to be an animation in the first place. If it were played by actors it would not have made a difference.

Bit of a shame, I liked your other submissions a lot. This one was a bummer. Oh well, better luck next time. Keep on animating though, you have it in you, you’ve proven that before! :)
